Wedding Procession
In India, a wedding symbolizes not just a union of two souls but two families. Traditional Indian wedding includes a number of ceremonies and rituals. Indian wedding barat or a procession is one of the wedding ceremonies in India. The groom dressed up in sherwani or suite sits on a white mare or elephant on his wedding day.
The groom wears the ethnic dress (sherwani) or suite and the sehera over his face on the wedding day. Groom's friends, family members and relatives are called the barati. Nowadays, the groom travels by a decorated car to the wedding venue or bride's place. The procession or Indian wedding barat dances and sings their way to the wedding venue or bride's place.
All the family members, relatives and friends arrive at the wedding venue in a procession with the band or musicians. In a traditional Indian wedding, the groom rides on a decorated horse or elephant and arrives at the venue like a royalty with a royal procession and musicians. The bride's family welcomes the groom and the barat with garlands and the aarti. The barati are taken to the wedding hall and served snacks, sweets and cold drinks. The wedding procession includes men and women both from the groom's side.
